Relaxation Massage - (Swedish) Relaxation Massage looks at the body as a whole. Using a variety of strokes the intention of a relaxation massage is to create an overall mental, physical and spiritual state of well-being. Relaxation massage lowers stress levels, improves both vascular and lymphatic circulation, lowers blood pressure, improves mental clarity and decreases muscular tension.
Sport Massage/Therapeutic Massage - (Deep tissue) massage is a type of massage aimed at the deeper tissue structures of the muscle and fascia, also called connective tissue. Deep tissue massage uses many of the same movements and techniques as Swedish massage, but the pressure will generally be more intense. It is also a more focused type of massage, as the therapist works to release chronic muscle tension or knots (also known as "adhesions.")
Pre Natal Massage - Pregnancy Massage like other forms of massage creates a sense of well-being and ease for an individual. Relaxation which decreases stress levels, in turn decreases the possibility of preterm labour. With a pregnancy massage the major areas of the body that are in discomfort will be addressed, with the client’s comfort a first priority. Pregnancy massage therefore helps relieve stress on all the weight bearing joints in the body and can help eliminate swelling in the extremities.
Trigger Point Massage - also known as myofascial trigger points, are areas of hyperirritability in the soft tissue structure. These can be acute sources of pain or latent, unnoticed by the client until pressure is applied by the practitioner. Trigger points are manifested as small contraction knots in the muscles, that control the state of contraction and active ones may cause muscle spasm and referred pain.
TMJ Massage - Massage therapy can help TMJ sufferers for the obvious reason relaxing your muscles as well as aiding in de-stressing you. The benefits of massage are not limited to your TMJ but as you may be highly stressed massage will help you learn how to relax and unclench knotted muscles in your shoulders, neck and face, including your jaw. External and intraoral massage is an effective treatment for clients who suffer from TMJ dysfunction, trigger point-related headaches or excess jaw tension. Latex-free gloves are worn while working inside the mouth to release the muscles and fascia involved in mastication and jaw clenching.

What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese technique used for relaxation, stress reduction, and healing in the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual bodies. It is based on the idea that life force energy flows through us, keeping us alive, happy and healthy. When this life force energy is not flowing fully throughout the body, it can cause a number of problems with the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies. The word Reiki itself is composed of two Japanese words:
“Rei” meaning Universal, Spiritual Wisdom, or Higher Self.
“Ki” meaning Life Energy
Reiki, therefore can be loosely translated as Universal Life Energy.
A Reiki practitioner works with the physical body in a “hands on” approach, as well as working with the energy field surrounding the body, known as the Aura. The Reiki energy flows through the practitioner to the affected parts of the energy field of the client. to charge them with positive energy, breaking apart the blockages which negative energies have caused. This process allows the life energy to flow freely throughout the body, helping to keep the body healthy and thriving with optimum vitality

Registered Massage Therapist
Born and raised in Alberta, Robert Buckland grew up in the Cochrane/Calgary area. Being involved with competitive swimming for thirteen years, Robert has swam and travelled all over the province and was even given the opportunity to swim at an international level in Montreal. Midway through his swimming career, Robert began to feel the pressures brought on by the repetitive nature of the sport. He noticed that the muscles in his low back and shoulders began to have constant pain. Seeking some form of relief from the pain, Robert sought out massage and physical therapy. Through the combined efforts of both modalities, Robert was able to recover and continue to compete at a provincial level. After graduating from high school, Robert found himself drawn to the alternative healthcare system, in particular massage therapy.
Two years later Robert graduated from Grant MacEwan Community College and within a month began massaging as a registered massage therapist. After being introduced to the Moksha series in January 2008, Robert has seen many improvements within his own body. Naturally, massage and yoga complement each other and what better way to massage the tissues of the body then after working in a heated room loosening the muscles. Robert is very excited to become a part of Moksha Yoga Edmonton and looks forward to meeting and working with a lot of great yogis/yoginis both in and out of the “Hot Room.”
